| Overview |
Takashima is a small island with a circumference of 1.5 km located 0.7 km off the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. There was once a vast area of shallow waters extending in the north of the island, making the island a strategic point of the seaway. Ritual sites have been found in three places: namely, among the boulders near the top of the 30 m hill, the island's highest place; in the northern foot of the hill; and further north on a flat land. The rituals on top of the hill are thought to have been held by off-island groups, and the others by the people of seaside villages. |
